How to fix a blurry photo

A photo you wanted came out blurry. Before you write it off, most everyday blur can be cleaned up in one click. Here's why photos come out blurry, and how to fix it.

Why is your photo blurry?

This distinction decides whether the photo can be saved at all. The last two are digital damage: the detail was captured, then degraded, and AI enhancement can rebuild a good deal of it. The first three are optical: the detail never reached the sensor. Nothing can recover information that was never recorded, so a missed-focus or motion-smeared shot will not come back sharp no matter which tool you try.

The fastest fix: a one-click Chrome extension

Image Enhancer is a free AI Chrome extension that sharpens and upscales a blurry photo, right in your browser.

  1. Add the extension to Chrome and open it.
  2. Drop in your blurry photo.
  3. The on-device AI rebuilds the detail and upscales the image in a click.
  4. Compare before and after, then download the fixed photo, no watermark, no size limit.

Set your expectations

We tested this instead of hand-waving. On an image that was shrunk and compressed hard, the enhancer rebuilds a good deal of the lost detail, where a plain resize came out softer than the file we started from. On an optically out-of-focus shot the gain is close to nothing, and on scanned film it smooths the grain away rather than helping.

So a small or over-compressed photo can come back looking genuinely sharp. A smeared or badly focused one will not, and it is fairer to tell you that now than to have you wait for a result that cannot exist. The tool rebuilds what is still in the file, it does not invent a new scene.
