Text from the picture
No text found
Check that the language above matches the image (changing it re-reads the same picture), or try a sharper, larger crop. Handwriting and very stylized fonts are hard for any OCR.
That didn't work
The text reader didn't load. Check your connection and try again.
The picture never leaves your device: the text is read right here. In Chrome or Edge on a computer it is translated here too; in other browsers only the text goes to the free MyMemory translation service.
How to translate a photo to English
Pick the language
Choose the language of the text in the picture, so it is read correctly. Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and more are in the list.
Drop the picture
A photo, a screenshot or a scan. Paste it with Ctrl+V or pick it from your phone's gallery.
Read and copy
The translation appears with the original under it. Fix the original if a word was misread and translate again.
Questions
How do I translate text from a picture?
Drop the picture, screenshot or photo into the translator at the top of this page, or paste it with Ctrl+V. Pick the language of the text in the picture first. The text is read in a few seconds and translated right away; choose another language under Translate to whenever you like.
How do I translate a photo to English?
Keep English under Translate to (it's the default), choose the language of the photo above the drop area and drop the photo. You get the English translation and the original text side by side, both ready to copy.
Is it free? Is there a limit?
Yes, free and without sign-up. In Chrome or Edge on a computer the translation runs on your device with no limit. In other browsers it uses the free MyMemory service, which allows about 5,000 characters a day per network.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The text is read from the picture in your browser. In Chrome or Edge on a computer the translation also stays on your device; elsewhere only the recognized text, not the picture, is sent to MyMemory to translate.
Which languages can it translate?
English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, in any direction.
Can it translate handwriting?
Printed text, screenshots, signs and menus work best. Handwriting and cursive are hard to read for any text recognition, so expect mistakes; you can fix the text in the box and press Translate again.
Only need the text, not a translation? Image to text or image to Word.
